Drug Abuse: Catalyst for Self – Deception




Most people start using drugs in their teenage. This is the period when generally people from both the gender gets influenced easily by the ideas which give results with quick effect. Most of us when start using drugs and other illicit substance, are aware of all adversities of using it in long run but out of curiosity and illusion of controlling its effect or its addiction. After getting the first rush the person does not crave for it but he/she really wants that feeling of previous time so they keep themselves in a deception that nothing is going to change we won’t become an addict. That is the first step towards inferno.

Before realizing or understanding the effects of drugs and other illicit material thoroughly the use of it becomes a part of the lifestyle of youngsters. Many youngsters make stupid excuses like   ” they are in trend, we don’t want to be an outcast “or “there is nothing wrong in having fun once in a while and we are not an addict”. There is a long list of common excuses which you can hear from addicts around the globe and they are almost identical from the places which geographically eon apart. More to that we do not make excuses we also create reasons for doing drugs like it stimulates my mood for work, it helps me in my creativity because I miss someone etc. these are only a few of them. We fool ourselves on daily basis; we claim that we are doing it occasionally but our routine expenditure habit and routine is set around this whole habit of using drugs or other illicit substance. These drugs and other illicit substance do not come cheap. If we do the math carefully we will find that huge sums of money from our earnings are quietly flushing away in the sewer. In addition to that countless of acts happen under the influence of these drugs and illicit material which require money to comply with the situation or sometimes a great deal of money to cope up with the condition or consequences. Even if someone for which money is not a big issue to worry about the few acts under the influence of drugs or illicit substances can lead to other horrifying results such as imprisonment, loss of status in society and sometimes uncontrolled rage which can lead even to death. Very short after one started using drugs or other illicit substances his/her whole world revolves around this habit. If carefully noticed we will find his/her entire schedule is set according to the fulfillment of this habit whether they admit it or not and it’s not necessary that they are aware of it they can be in illusion or might have had some way of self-deception.

The most important aspect to overcome the automatic process of self-deception is acceptance the helplessness of our self against drugs or other illicit substance and to let go of our ego. That is the only way out of this problem. To adjust this habit by trying different substitute or trying to change the ways of this habit will only worsen the situation. The only way out of the maze is to quit completely because there is no safe limit of using these drugs or illicit substance. It is the habit which is going to increase ultimately so it’s better to quit this habit before it controls your life. This chain of self-deception is so dangerous that in spite of all the points against doing drugs or other illicit substance it will try to somehow convince you. More to that it can start at any time in life at any age. Since its self –deception so it does not matter how experienced one is, the part of the mind which is responsible for self-deception is as old as is of its victim. If we honestly analyze we will find that we had more free time and been less stressed before using drugs or other illicit substances. It’s never late to admit that we had been fooled by ourselves and now we are never going to be fooled again. 

For the people who are not sailed into the storm of drug abuse, there is nothing hip about it and there is nothing to be curious about it. If you don’t use drugs or other illicit substance you will soon realize that you avoided a major setback in life as you find that your ambiance is way better than the ones which are using.


The influence of different drugs and other illicit substance might differ from one to other person but the syndrome of self-deception is a common factor in the entire user of illicit substances and drugs. Since generally, people are not suicidal they are looking for pleasure and confidence in drugs which will be momentary. For that moment human mind uses various tricks and excuses for the deception of logical part of the mind.
